is there a way you can actually get a computer to accept your treaty?

Submitted by forcestealer on Fri, 2007-01-05 17:03. Space Empires V FAQs

i'm in the middle of a game...and i found recently that i can't destroy planets or colonize planets with the treaty...so i try changing it...and appearently the computer doesn't like me..so for about 30 turns i try and still won't accept...any way i can make them accept?

Break the origional treaty

Submitted by evilginger on Fri, 2007-01-05 20:29.

Break the original treaty and then start again is the quickest way. The Ai will generally propose something more acceptable eventually. Otherwise make the AI like you enough to accept the new treaty Amiable AI’s will accept any thing. Do this by means of gifts or offering intelligence support

The Balance Mod AI is a lot more sensible here as is Maran's AI mod but this is less developed than stock

Can someone plz tell me how to discontinue a treaty that prevents me from colonizing planets when all other races are in an alliance so i cant seem to speak to any 1 particular race alone. Thx in advance!

Yes, breaking the treaty is the ONLY way in the stock game. I can't address the Mod because I haven't played it.

But you can absolutely forget that bad advice about trying to make them like you by giving gifts of any kind. No matter what you send they will ALWAYS reply with "Your gift angers us." However, if they request something just hit the Request Granted button (or however it's labled) - but do NOT actually send anything.

Best thing is just to break the treaty and be done with it. They will make more offers, read them carefully.

yeah...i tried that...i saved before i did it..so a tested it..i broke treaty...they attacked me on their turn...i had no choice but to attack them back...completly mutilated their ships...they say"you made a mistake attacking my ships...we declare war against you" somthing like that...and so now i have to destroy them...completly...cause they don't know when to surrender...so i eventually got them down to 1 planet and a colony ship...they don't surrender...and then i lose contact with him...the thing is...i don't want to destroy them...just change the treaty...

not true I offered an ai a fearly usless tech and they took it and liked it and then they acepeted a mod to the trety with was giving me all there techs including racil

I think the trick is not only to be likable but also slightley intimatinting at first they would not even acept resonable tretys but after 50 turns when I had 30+ extra planets and big bases in orbet around most of them they where offedring me very unblanced tretyes in my favor I now have 3 races who re giving me all there techs

gifts work

Submitted by evilginger on Sun, 2007-01-07 11:06.

gifts work provided the AI is at least indifferent to you worse than that and it will have an increasing tendency to reject them and get annoyed by the offer but if it gets to that point then gun boat diplomacy is in order.

OT Cosmic marvel bless him is a bit upset that I don’t see his imaginary bugs BTW

Imaginary, eh? Wow! That's just brilliant even coming from you, Simon! I suppose you'll be so kind as to explain, then, why so many others are "imagining" them also???? They are WELL documented here in MANY posts besides just mine.

Similar Problem

Submitted by Atomizer4 on Thu, 2007-02-15 12:45.

I can't get any AI (even Amiable) to accept any kind of treaties, and they never offer any. Suggestions?

Try keeping them simple limiting them to non agression and trade Avoid things like tarifs and the clauses further down the branch as these are increasingly more objectionable to the AI. Spaming them with the offer will also work some times.

The other way is to down load and install the Balence Mod or the IRM both of which have much better diplomatic AI's Marrans Mod had good AI's for stock but I am not sure that they are at all compatable with V1.25

I always try to start a treaty that way, and won't spamming make them angry?
