Unable to start SEV |
I downloaded Space Empires V through Steam and started with the default settings, I select SEV on steams list then get to the pre load screen, I then select play...
the screen goes blank
The Game is running underneath and if I alt tab out I get a quick flash of what I should be looking at. I tried to click on one of the buttons when it was flashing up and seem to stop it in the correct screen, which I though was good!
now however the title screen does not work at all (looks good though). Tutorial button does nothing. Quickstart display the dialog box but starts nothing same for scenario etc. the credits button displays a nice display but no credits The sound seems to be working as well.
The game is up to date (through steam)
I have updated my video card driver
I have uninstalled the game and started again
Operating System: Windows XP Home
Processor: Intel Pentium 3.00GHz
Memory: 1022MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT
Display Memory: 128.0 MB

As far as i can tell, the scenarios are an incomplete feature of the game.

Scenarios are not incomplete, just nobody has made any. In fact, the tutorial itself is a scenario... but I'm not sure if the tutorial was included in the demo...?

There was one in the 1.08 demo not sure about it being in the new 1.25 demo and I think scenarios are supposed to be a bit like player generated moods with a set map and opponents and story line. No one has done any so far. This is not surprising as there is no map editor yet and I think one would be essential here.

I also have this problem.
What happens:
I start up the game I see the menu, can click on the various buttons but in the end they do nothing. If I try to start a game it just does nothing. Doesn't take me to the screen to set up the game or anything. It only takes me into the screen to pick Standard SE5. No matter what I choose it just sends me back to the main menu. It does the same with tutorial and Scenarios too. Credits doesn't show any credits either. I did try this on another computer and it works fine with no startup problems.
Also it doesn't load correctly in full screen and I have to do the alt tab to get back in as I think he was mentioning.
I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, updating drivers, uninstalling various programs and whatnot else that I can't even recall now.
I am sure they aren't talking about no scenarios as the tutorial shows up anyway as one I think this is the problem they are having though I may be wrong.
Any ideas?

Have you tried running the game with Video Memory Usage: Safe( in Setup ), sparky ?

Just an update.
I have tried loading a saved game from the computer I was able to get it to work. This loads the game except I can't end the turn and it just makes a gurgling noise. I will try some more with this though.
Also I have tried changing the settings such as using video memory usage and that doesn't help.

Right, guys, if you're still having this problem, try the following
Goto SEV Folder /data/settings.txt
Alter this line
Allow Music := TRUE
to
Allow Music := FALSE
This worked for me

I have the exact same problem! I also tried using the demo and get ezactly the same thing happening!
