Fighter Bays working oddly

Submitted by glockgemini on Sun, 2007-02-18 19:00. Space Empires V FAQs

I'm playing 1.25 with Balance mod 1.02
I have ships with some fighter bays. The fighters are built on a different planet than the ships. They meet at a common point in space. When I try to put them on the ship, I naturally chose Launch/Recover function. This doesn't work at all. So I try Transfer Cargo function and transfer the fights from space to the ship. This doesn't make any sense!!! It leaves the fighter group name where the fighter were. Once I clciked on it and tried to transfer it, I got a memory overload error which froze the game.

Maybe its just my crazy old habits from SE4, but I still think that Launch/Recover should be the function to bring fighter onboard from space. The Transfer Cargo function should work from the cargo bays on a planet or another ship.

I had that problem today, I checked the "condensed view" box, made sure the ship I wanted to load to was highlighted (green text) and made sure the fighter group I wanted to load was highlighted and then clicked the recover button. It took a moment to load, but it worked, and it didn't work outside of condensed view mode for me.

That might be your problem, but it certainly is a bug.

heh i had this same issue with sats for a while, i had the ship, i had the sat group, id fly to the sat group and try to load it into the ship. nothing. i next tryed to transfer cargo, the sats would move into the ship, but then as soon as i clicked next turn the game would crash. i could NOT for the life of me figure out how this worked.

anyhow almost by accident i discovered that i wasnt selecting the ship to recover with (it came by loading fighters into a fleet and having to choose what ship to load, then it all clicked into place), id click on the sats, and since i only had one ship i expected/assumed that the one ship would be the defalt ship that would recover. not so, you have to select the ship to recover (even if its the only one there) and the unit your going to recover (again even if its the only unit there) a bit of a puzzler, but kinda funny in a way, i mean i can set up and run this giant empire but i get confuzzled by a lil bit of coding on a simple sat recovery mission. brings back memorys of some old original nintendo games i played that took me ages to figure out how to do even simple tasks that in hind sight should have been obvious

Also, with "transfer cargo" you can use the fighters' supply to top up the carrier but not if you use "launch/recover". That seems wrong.Launch/recover" should let you top up the carriers supply and "transfer cargo" should be only ship to ship and ship to planet; as stated above.

I'll pay more attention to whether or not my single ship is selected when I try to "recover" fighters manually.
