What is IRM and what does it do to/for the game? |
I haven't been playing long enough to know what IRM is. Can someone explain it to me? I know it's a popular mod and that's about it.
Re: What is IRM and what does it do to/for the game?
1 There was Marans AI mod but that has not been updated since game patch 1.17 that provided three unique and interesting new AI's There may be others but thats the only one I am aware off all the others make tech tree changes
2 I think it will work with TC/IP games provided all players are using the same version of the Mod
3 IRM stands for Interrelated Mod since the interelation of the techs was its initial principle feature.

Personally, I view the stock tech tree/data files to be merely an example of how to code for modders to get references off of. You haven't been playing enough to see this though. One long stock game early on can help you better appreciate what each mod does as they get polished and made in the coming months yes...

FWIW IRM FTW.

lol I like how you said coming months, not weeks...I played it with out cheating and in the first few hours I was like...I want a mod
I might suggest using the alltech cheat so you can get a view of what the tech tree looks like. Use the "?" button to see what is required when and also create a ship and look at the components' requirements.

Re: What is IRM and what does it do to/for the game?
IRM as a mod which changes the tech tree considerably mostly by interelating techs so that you have to reserch several to gain now components and facilities. It has a much improved AI and a set of very helpful ministers all of which exept for the scraping one work well. Changes have been made to the facility capacitys of planets and to the way population level effects production rate as well as reserch and intel.
Other features include improved AI ship designs and better use of them by the AI's weaker fighters and a larger number of weapons which can do point defence work which reduces the utility of fighters other units and seekers.
this is I am afraid a cross post as I had already replyed to this on the IRM 8c thread
