Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Monolith Facilities and Stellar Manipulation |
If you use stellar manipulation in stock, when do you start researching in it, how many research points do you have around at that point?
Should I use monolith facilities? I have noticed that they have a high maintenance cost and therefore doesn’t produce as many resources especially minerals, which mean if I replace all mineral facilities I will end up with a lower mineral production. Minerals are the most used resource so that isn’t good. Still it could be that the amount of minerals produced by the monolith facilities that I have made to replace the organics and radioactives producing facilities is higher, than I lose by replacing minerals facilities, but that depends on the amount of organics and radioactives producing facilities which leads to the next question
In what ratio should I build resource buildings? In the wiki of Space Empires 4 is the ratio:
(Minerals / Organics / Radioactives)
Early game: 10 : 1 : 2-3
Mid-Late game: 10: 1 : 4
Has it changed in Space Empires 5?
And the last question how do you use the facility: Resource converter?
Edit: Moonlight -> Monolith.. :S no idea where I found that word..

Re: Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Monolith Facil
As for the ratios you mentioned, I never worried about ratios, what I did was just make it even (which might be wasteful I don't know but I never had a problem with resources). I would look in my Empires tab and see my total production of resources and try to make them all about even. Anyways, that ratio thing is only good if you are not an Organic or Crystalline race, I think. Not sure about stock, but atleast with alot of mods Organic races use quite a few more organic resources than any other and Crystlaline races use radioactives the same way.
I rarely end up using Stellar Manipulations at all but I think they are pretty expensive in research points (atleast for the later tech levels) that its a mid to late game science pump thing. Certainly its not something you should be worried about in the early game.

Re: Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Monolith Facil
In SE4, you could set a planet with the convert resource order to repeat orders, which would do it automatically every turn. Not sure if that carried over to SE5 - I'd assume it does, but I haven't tried it myself.
Re: Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Monolith Facil
Never used ratios either. Simply put, I put SY and Resource facilities on all "green" colonies and nothing but Research on the "red" planets. That has always worked quite well for me.
Re: Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Monolith Facil
I use the crystaline tech tree, so provided i find a few double or triple star systems to stock up solar collectors in, i use every decent mineral value planet not in these systems for minerals and pile research facilities onto the rest, never really having to build a radioactives facility if i get lucky enough. makes for plenty of all the resources usually and a lot of research points too, but you have to invest some race points into the crystaline trait. its pretty nice i think because it doesn't seem to rely on planet value %s, and you can build them all over and get massive goods and have plenty of space in other systems left for research, i guess it would be bad though if you were playing multiplayer and one of these solar collector systems gets glassed, you would prob get screwed if you didn't protect it well.
Re: Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Monolith Facil
I like Organic and Crystalline because they improve the spread of resources. It actually speeds up ship construction!
Ship A: Mostly minerals
4500 M, 200 O, 400 R : Total = 5100
It requires 4500 construction points to build.
Ship B: Mixed
3000 M, 1500 O, 1500, R: Total = 6000
This one only requires 3000 construction points. Sure the total cost is higher, but it gets built 33% faster.

Re: Resource buildings ratio, Resource Converter, Moonlight Faci
It's actually called a Monolith Facility, not Moonlight. On a planet with decent resource values across the board, you'll generate more total resources with Monolith Facilities. You'll be wanting to use a Resource Converter to translate those extra organics and radioactives into minerals. I forget where exactly the convert order is located, but you should be able to access it through the right-click menu when you have a planet with a converter selected.
