The War of Three Suns
By Adam Milton

This is a short story, written like a historical text, using the stock races (And one custom race that I normally play as) and a Mod that I am working on, as players in this conflict and a setting for the conflict. I hope you all enjoy it.

It was the Humans who coined the term, while it has grown in popularity over the last few years many still prefer the moniker “War of Three Suns” instead of the more pessimistic “The First Interstellar War”.

Whatever you may call it, everyone agrees that the blood shed could not have been avoided, though letting it go on for as long as it did, even after so much loss, was the biggest mistake.

The very face of the galaxy would be changed forever after this war. Boarders would shift, technology would make huge strides and planets and stars would be swallowed whole in the conflict.

The war’s origins could be traced back all the way to the Amon’krie’s discovery of a hidden warp point in their home system of Nooloom. They sent probe after probe into the soft spot in space and found that it was not hidden, or overlooked, but a brand new warp point. The first documented new born warp point ever. Scientists and research corporations from all over the galaxy sent expeditions there, begging to study it. The Amon’krie denied all of them but promised to give any useful information over to any government who was willing to pay a steep price.

Research and study went on for years and the Amon’krie learned a lot, specifically the breakthrough technology of how to create stable warp points themselves. Think of it, before ships were confined to travel predetermined routes between the stars, instantly moving thousands of light years without the need for FTL drives or space folding technologies. Many races lobbied for that technology but the Amon’krie denied it to all, deciding to keep it for themselves.

For decades, Amon-Kuruth and his empire, were the envy of the Galaxy the study of the Warp Point had yielded new technologies also. Null Space Weapons were discovered. Thousands of simulations and a few skirmishes with pirates proved to the Amon’krie, and the rest of the Galaxy, that these weapons were very deadly and the Amon’krie were not to be trifled with. They walked like giants amongst the stars and systems that were once contested were easily theirs.

They grew and quickly controlled two star clusters. Before long empires began signing peace treaties, and protectorates with them. The Norak, Phong, and Xiati all signed up and were rewarded with protection and an assurance that the Amon’krie would always be there to help.

The United Nations Space Federation, Jraenar, Eee, Drushocka formed an alliance of their own. At the summit of Zitrod III they put together the Star Defense League, believing that the newest weapons that the Humans had developed, and the Organic Technology of the Drushocka and the sheer material wealth of both the Jraenar and Eee would be enough to defend their interests. Though many analysts predicted doom for the new alliance because of the ancient hatred between the Eee and Drushocka. The General Speaker of the UNSF and Master General of the Jraenar did their best to keep those sides from arguing too much. They were the only alliance that could possible stand against the Amon’krie.

Still other groups like the Resource Guild, a major resource partnership between Abbidon and Ukratal, and the League of Industrial Systems, a pact between the XiChung, Sergetti Sithrak, proserpered by selling resources and weapons to both sides. It was a tense time for all in the known galaxy.

On the other side of the Galaxy the CueCappa explored the galaxy by themselves, content to study stars, and black holes in their lonely corner of the galaxy. They had met a few of the smaller races, dubbed Neutral races, species so young they had not yet mastered Warp Point flight. As far as the Cue were concerned they were the most powerful species on the galactic scene.

After deep range imaging and probing the Amon’krie discovered what they thought was fertile systems to colonize. The most fertile was a trinary system with several ripe planets . In the first strategic display of the Warp Point technology they opened a point to this new fertile system, which had three stars surrounded by healthy worlds ready for the taking. The galaxy watched as they punched a hole through space and made their own way, their own route into the void. From an empty system, a few points away from the home system, they launched their new fleet hoping to grab planets on the other side of the galaxy.

Many knew it was a matter of time before the Amon’krie grew belligerent and decided to use this technology to expand their territory. How long before they opened a point right in the middle of the Jraenar’s home system? The UNSF’s system? They all watched in muted awe and stayed anger.

The CueCappa at first were pleased to see a new warp point opening in their home system, but were horrified when they saw a fleet of Colony ships and Warships pour through the point. The CueCappa, though an isolated race quickly responded by scrambling all fighters and defense forces. The Amon’krie, alarmed by what they found, thinking it was a trap, opened fire first.

The CueCappa, while not the first physic race known to the galaxy, did use their unqiue technology to strike hard. They were able to capture several Amon’krie ships, and turned the tide of battle.. Slowly the Amon’krie were able to destroy the first few waves of defense fleet, mostly comprising of out of date frigates a hand full of destroyers and cruisers. In the final tally the Cuecappa lost 6 of their own ships, and 4 of the ships they captured with the allegiance subverter. The Amon’krie lost a great deal more, including the number of destroyers they lost to coverting, two light cruisers and 5 colony ships, each with 50 million on each ship. The Amon’krie pulled back and waited at the entrance to the Warp Point for their reinforcements. Their pride was wounded, and they decided to strike back and hard.

Reinforcements began to gather at the point, 5 cruisers and 2 battleships. They watched as the wounded few colony ships limped back to the dry dock, full of sad people. It was then; Sky Marshall Amon-Due decided they needed to act. Recklessly he poured his ships into the point.

What Amon-Due didn’t know was that the point was quickly being mined. Thanks to some scientific research the CueCappa had extra mines ready to be deployed. The Scientific components were ripped out and replaced with crude Cobalt war heads. The point had been mined with at least 25 mines when the first of the Amon’krie ships materialized from the point. Instantly two cruisers were vaperized and a battleship was crippled, not that it mattered. The rest of ships were damaged but still had enough power to return home.
The CueCappa captured and killed the crew of the surviving Battleship. What had just happened was the first battle of The Three Suns.

You see thanks to the research breakthroughs the Amon’krie got after discovering the warp point they had accelerated research for the better part of a decade. In that time the developed several things and were on the cusp of something huge: Shields. The CueCappa spent the next three months taking apart Null-space weapons, understanding the advanced armor plating and sensor packages. They continued to mine the entrance of the warp point, hoping nothing else would come through.

Then, after researching and countless attacks and tries, they were able to hack the mainframe of the Ship. Instantly they had all of the research information that the Amon’krie had been working on, Comm. Channels and star maps detailing that the galaxy was a place teeming with life.

Soon drones were built and loaded with information and pleas for help. The CueCappa knew people wouldn’t help them without some reward waiting for them. So on those drones were the research about Shields and the schematics about the Null Space Weapons.

The Amon’krie’s battle fleet, now with 15 frigates, 10 destroyers, and 5 cruisers sat perched at the entrance of the point, they sat there and watched in horror as those drones few past them with incredible speed. It was too late to stop them.

By the end of the day the galaxy would know what was going on, the war that the Amon’krie wanted to keep secret, the technology they had horded and the fact that they were not as powerful as they thought, or wanted the galactic community to know was about to get out.

I know I took some liberties with the story, most that finding a warp point would lead to new discoveries. We will call that creative license and leave it at that.
