Refitting Satellites and Weapon Platforms

Soumis par ShamusMcFatty le Lun, 2007-02-26 19:49 Space Empires V FAQs

Is there a way to refit satellites and weapon platforms like you can with ships? I've been looking for some way to do this, but haven't found any.

It would be nice if there was a button on the design screen that was like a "Refit to Upgraded".

Not at the moment all you can do is upgrade thye design scrap the old and replace with new units built on the same design

I wish there was some interface that showed all units, ships and otherwise, and let you upgrade them like you can do with planet facilities.

The AI does have a minister that will slowly upgrade ships as it gets through the queue. You don't want every single ship heading to retrofit at the same time after all

what if you DO want that though? Like what if I want to park all my ships at my planets and retrofit all ships of that class.

I had allways asumed the inability to retrofit/upgrade uints was delibrate it is one of there disadvantages they are cheep and you do not need a spaceyard to build them but you can not upgrade them

no, they are cheap because they are small units.

If you look how the cost is calculated, you will see that you place components with the same cost as you do on your ships and bases.

The OP is right, even more so when we are deploying equipment that has the same cost as the equipment we place on our ships.

Weapon platforms, satellites, and other units look more like "first class units" in SEV than they did back in SEIII and SEIV (back then they were just an icon with a number attached like the way supplies are represented in cargo lists). Because of that, when I first played SEV I started looking for that capability as well. And I was annoyed when I didn't find it.

I agree though, I want to upgrade Units! And have the Game name upgraded and retrofitted units smartly, giving them the new name and a new number.

You hit a soft spot there when you mention auto renaming for upgraded stuff....

When we were upgrading stuff from SEIII we had to rename "Doomship III 0001" to "Doomship IV 000X"
When we were upgrading stuff from SEIV we had to rename "Doomship III 0001" to "Doomship IV 000X"
When we were upgrading stuff from SEV we still have to rename "Doomship III 0001" to "Doomship IV 000X"

When will this end?

Some ppl got so fed up with this that they stooped upgrading fleets: they scrapped stuff instead and this made the recycling facility a favorite.

I am quite happy to have the ships class name remain independant of the ship name and would lobby for it to be changed back to the way it is now where it changed.

I frequently give ships individual names and it would anoy me to have to keep rechanging that name every time I upgrade it.

I understand this completely and I frequently do the same. Aaron should provide only a serial number for a name when something is built and the design type should be listed along the name in all lists and displays. Adding the design type in the name by default to all built ships is the problem, along with not listing the design type on the Gui as frequently as the name.

I hate when I send somewhere Builder 001 to build space station and later i notice i retrofited it into mine sweeper.

But agree that if i make plantet bombarding ship with design name PlanBomber and rename ship to EnolaGay i want it to stay EnolaGay after i upgrade it to PlanBomber II.

Imo solution would be, if ship had both name, design type name and number. If player would not set name, instead of name would be used design type name + number.
This way i would know that some ship is now MineSweeper and my custom names would not disapear.

also If you factor in the fact that with the new 100 leveled research system I will never finish upgrading my ships, you can imagine the pain.
