System Blockade

Soumis par Dighton le Ven, 2007-03-23 08:01 Space Empires V General

I have a SEV Game where there is a system with a single Warp Point (Dead End). I was just pondering...

If the enemy controlled either side of the WP, does/should the system be considered to be under a blockade? Sould Space Ports continue to send/recieve resources/migrants from other systems?

Thank you

I don't think it does, but I've not been playing that long so I can't say for sure. As to whether it should? Well....it probably /should/ - if the enemy controlled all means through which one could exit the system; or at least a penalty.

But since you get the resources each turn, even if it would take longer then that to move them to the storehouses, and you don't need to make cargo ships to do it in, its not that big of an issue.

As far as I know, you can only blockade individual planets. You can control all of the WPs out of a system, and planets in that system will still contribute their resources to their respective empire. Park a couple cruisers in orbit of the planets, however, and it's a different matter.

Suction feet are not to be trifled with!

Yes id like to see a "Blockade button" for planets. That way, if there are no ships in orbit, you can move your fleet onto it, and it wont attack the planet.....

Agree with that as some times I would like to use gun boat diplomacy. As for system blockading the only way to do it is to find the planet or planets in the system which have space ports and blockade them but that dosent work all the time and blockading warp points does inhibit the movement of unarmed ships which is itself useful

yes, i agree... a 'Blockade' button would make life a lot easier. sending a fleet or ship into an enemy planet's orbit means there is combat which means - if you don't want your planet bombarding civilians and encouraging neutrals to hate your guts [think Centauri bombing of Narn homeworld.. not good for public relations] - you have to sit your fleet off for several minutes until the time runs out on RT combat.
hmmm... could be a button for ending combat early when nothing is happening in RT combat could be useful here too?

actually, this game really is well thought out as re: how ships and ministers behave etc and how you can set things to play so i'm kinda surprised there is no 'Blockade' button as it seems the level of strategy demands it. often 'threatening' combat has far more of an effect than actually fighting. just the presence of a medium sized fleet in the system of an aggressive though weak neutral could - should - be enough to force a diplomatic solution either one way [war] or the other [peace agreement].
mayeb this is what happens in-game but there is so little feedback it's often difficult to tell [same with so many 4X games, sadly]. managing a huge expanding galactic empire is hard work so if nobody tells you that this or that fleet is out of order you're just not likely to notice!
maybe one day this will be sorted out? diplomacy surely HAS to be the single most important aspect of this kinda game? and waiting on a diplmatic decision from an unknown neutral can be as interesting as facing off an enemy fleet at a warp point.
